Recap of DCG June Events

June 3, 2011: Riverbash in Old Town Lansing:

The Old Town Riverbash was a great success with an estimated 400-500 attendees enjoying the many events in this hip part of Lansing. Thanks so all of the participating businesses and Old Town Commercial Association for supporting this great event!  As one parent stated, "There's not much for teenagers to do in Old Town." Her son enjoyed the music performed in Turner Park as well as displaying his shooting prowess with the International Basketball League's Lansing Capitals. This writer had a great deal of fun taking a tour of the Grand River via boat thanks to Metro Marinas. I have never experienced the Grand River in such a fashion; it 's a great deal larger when viewed from the river iteself. Fifty DeWitt High School students participated in the Old Town Scavenger Hunt enthusiastically scrambling to identify landmarks for clues to win $250.00 in prizes thanks to Master Flotka's ATA Martial Arts (thanks for the generous support)! A week later I was shopping in an Old Town art gallery/boutique whereupon the owner let me know about the much appreciated increase in foot traffic Riverbash brought. The owner suggested  the DeWitt Creativity Group hold similar events for all future First Friday Gallery Walks in Old Town. Such Video, Inc. was kind to do a feature on 2011 Old Town Riverbash. This feature will be shown on the CityTV Comcast channel 12 in Lansing and at www.youtube.com/KeepLearningLansing.

June 18, 2011: Aim High Sports Facility: Lansing Capitals 144 Ohio Hidden Gems 127

The DeWitt Creativity Group is thrilled to support Lansing's hottest new minoe league sports team: the Lansing Capitals of the International Basketball League! The Capitals played an exciting, nonstop, edge of your seat game against the Ohio Hidden Gems at Aim High Sports Facility on June 18, 2011 in front of 80-100 passionate fans. The game marked the return of professional basketball to Lansing, Michigan. Giannina Gomez and Casey Cavanaugh of the DeWitt Creativity Group contributed to the fan friendly atmosphere by face painting and taking pictures. This is the kind of support the DCG wants to give the Capitals. Next year the DCG wants to arrange a charity match between the Capitals and a team of DeWitt High School teachers during the 2011 fall homecoming. Additionally, the new International Club at DHS in conjunction with the DCG will work with the Capitals to hold an "International Guest Appreciation Night" for foreign Michigan State University visiting scholars and students.
