Original Show Brings Big City Feel to DHS Stage

After rave reviews opening weekend the DeWitt High School Theater Department's original sketch comedy show Welcome to Hysterical DeWhat  revisited the stage for a Saturday night encore performance on March 3rd.  The show, largely based on the style and pace found at the famous Second City Theater in Chicago is a unique production in the fact that the community, high school, and local businesses provided plentiful inspiration and ammunition for the comedic material needed to come up with 32 original skits. The show, like Second CIty, takes a close look at local news headlines while poking fun at a variety of local knowledge including many staff members of the high school, community social events, sports, etc.., The audience and cast members both agreed there was no short of material. Laughter was in the air from the start as the show used a very cool soundtrack to keep the energy high throughout. Audience members actually participated in the action on two occasions as they joined cast members on the stage turned "dance floor".   Two of the nights cast members entertained the audience well after the show had finished with a 20 minute improvisation set which took audience suggestions to provide the backdrop for the improv session. This "Act As if..," production directed by Jeff Croley was inspired by the numerous trips to Chicago where he has been taking theater students for the last ten years to study and participate in workshops at Second CIty, Comedy Sportz, and iO..
