Help Make Michigan an Esports Pioneer!

The Michigan Creativity Group and the High School Esports League are proud to launch the “Make Michigan an Esports Pioneer” campaign. Given the increasing popularity of Esports (competitive video gaming) at the university level, there is a significant need for representation in K-12 schools. Recently, Connecticut became the first state to officially sponsor Esports, help-ing to provide a STEM related activity along the lines of robotics to capture student interest. Following Connecticut’s lead, Michigan should grant recognition to Esports to enable students to represent their respective schools in an exciting new form of competition. There has been some interest on behalf of parties affiliated with the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) to make Esports a sponsored activity. What is needed is additional support by stakeholders throughout the state to encourage the Executive Committee of the MHSAA to turn rhetoric into reality.

We are calling on all interested parties to write a letter of support (see attached form letter) to the Executive Committee of the MHSAA to make Esports a sponsored activity.
It is crucial we provide our students with the opportunities to develop the following skills and qualities:

• Critical Thinking
• Resiliency
• Problem Solving
• Communication
• Inclusion
• Respect
• Integrity
• Technological Proficiency

Additionally, eSports can help expose students to STEM and STEAM related careers, profes-sionals, and topics.

Please consider sending a letter of support to the Executive Council of the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) to give our students the many opportunities now af-forded to those in Connecticut.
