Theater Department Honored

The Theater Department has been nominated to represent the United States at the High School Theater Festival in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2010. Across the country outstanding high school Theater Departments have been recognized and nominated to represent the United States at the American High School International Theater Festival which celebrates highly acclaimed Theater Departments.  The nation's top high school theater programs have been nominated by representatives from the state, regional, or national associations. College theater directors are also asked to submit nominations. DeWitt has been nominated as a result of the high quality of work achieved on the stage and for the professionalism and innovative productions displayed by the Theater Department year after year. The experiences DHS Theater students get from being involved in a variety of productions and genres offer unique learning opportunities not commonly found at the high school level. Many students have gone on to perform at the university and professional level as well as community theater and technical training.

The program in DeWitt has a terrific reputation around the state and is known for bringing difficult works to life on stage (Pinter, Shepard , Beckett) as well as trying new works when they first become available (Les Miserables, High School Musical, Chicago). In 2008 the department received high honors for their production of Chicago which was honorable mention in the USA Today top high school musicals in the country and the only school from Michigan selected.
