Summary of 2015 MCES

Several school districts including DeWitt, Lapeer, Olivet, Stockbridge, and Holt were represented by teachers and students committed to innovation and creativity via project based learning. Presentations involving updates on awesome capstone projects were given by students. There was a heavy emphasis on student involvement.

Additionally, Superintendent Brian Davis of Holland Public Schools gave a presentation of the many great programs going on throughout the district. Several officials from Accident Fund Holdings also participated throughout the day by fielding questions during a panel discussion with students on innovation, and how the company is striving to develop an innovative culture as well.

As a result of the 2015 Michigan Creative Educators Summit, the participating districts are designing "innovation exchanges" (to share best practices and ideas) and a Student Voice Camp whereby students will discuss and develop ways to change their schools to become more innovative places!

Lastly, the Michigan Innovative Educator Awards were given out to the inaugural class of recipients. Unfortunately, State Superintendent of Schools Mike Flanagan was not able to attend; however, students accepted his award on his behalf. Photos were taken and sent to him via social media.
